Pet licenses can now be offered in several lengths, each with its own price and expiry, with a valid rabies vaccination required at the moment a license is issued. Lost-and-found got smarter when a found pet already has an owner, the mobile home screen became noticeably more responsive with push notifications switched on for iPhone, and the public website now showcases real previews of the app.
Shipped
Choose a license length and pay for just that length
Backend and automationPet licenses can now be offered in more than one length, each with its own price. When buying a license, owners pick the length they want and see its price up front, so the cost always matches the option they chose.
Up-to-date rabies shot required when a license is issued
Backend and automationA valid rabies vaccination is now required at the very moment a license is issued, so every active license starts out backed by a current shot. A license's expiry now follows the length the owner selected, rather than a one-size-fits-all default.
Smarter handling when a found pet already has an owner
ACO and admin portalWhen an officer confirms a possible match on a pet that is already secured to an owner, the owner is now notified and asked to confirm, instead of the pet being automatically marked as found. This keeps owners in the loop about their own pet and avoids premature status changes.
Real app previews on the website
Website and brandThe homepage no longer relies on placeholder graphics. It now shows genuine previews of the app's screens and links visitors straight to the live App Store listing, so people can see exactly what they are getting before they download it.
A more responsive home screen
Mobile appThe app's home screen now shows clear loading indicators while it fetches your pets, updates instantly when a pet's photo or rabies status changes, and shows upload progress while a vaccination or licensing record is being scanned, so the screen always reflects the latest information without needing a manual refresh.
Push notifications on iPhone
Mobile appPush notifications are now switched on for iPhone owners, so timely alerts, such as a possible match for a lost pet, can reach them directly on their device.
Fixed and improved
Reliable document downloads
Mobile appOpening or downloading a saved document is more dependable, and if it does not succeed the first time there is now a clear "Try again" option instead of a dead end.
Spay and neuter status saves correctly
Mobile appMarking a pet as not spayed or neutered from the edit screen is now saved reliably, so the pet's record reflects exactly what the owner entered.
Found-pet locations always show
ACO and admin portalFound-pet reports now always display where the animal was found, showing a readable place name when one is available and map coordinates otherwise, so officers are never left without a location.
Quicker responses, even after a quiet spell
Backend and automationOur live service now keeps a server ready at all times, removing the occasional wait while the system woke up, so owners and officers get a quick response no matter when they open the app.
Easier-to-reach controls when updating photos
Mobile appOn the screen for updating a pet's photos, the information button moved up to the top bar, making the controls easier to find and reach.
Fresh builds and clearer test versions
Quality and releaseSeveral new versions of the app were prepared for testing across iPhone and Android, and development and staging builds now carry their own app icons and "DEV" or "STG" badges so testers can tell at a glance which version they are running.
June 15-21, 2026
A major upgrade to the face recognition behind lost-and-found made matches noticeably more accurate, applying for a pet license got simpler by reusing documents owners already have, and the in-app camera was sharpened for clearer pet and document photos — alongside steady work to keep the matching service fast and reliable.
Shipped
Major upgrade to pet face matching
Pet matching & AIThe face recognition behind lost-and-found got a major overhaul. Found pets are now matched only against the right species, breed, and color, obviously mismatched suggestions are dropped, nearby and still-lost pets are ranked first, the clearest recent photo of each pet is used, and a second AI check reviews every suggested match — making the matches owners see far more accurate and trustworthy.
Next-generation recognition in testing
Pet matching & AIA more powerful two-model image-recognition approach is being trialed in our development environment to push matching accuracy even higher before it reaches the live app.
Faster found-pet matching
Backend and automationFound-pet reports are now compared against lost pets every few minutes across all environments, so potential matches surface much sooner.
Sharper, easier scanning
Mobile appThe in-app camera now locks focus on the capture frame, supports tap-to-focus, and shoots at higher resolution, and document scans are trimmed to the frame — so photos of pets and records come out clearer.
Simpler licensing with documents you already have
Mobile appApplying for a pet license is smoother: an existing spay/neuter certificate is automatically attached as proof, a vaccination record added during sign-up now counts toward the requirement, and owners can capture or pick a proof photo that uploads reliably. A pet's spay/neuter status is recorded exactly as entered, and the home screen flags when an owner lives in an area that requires a license.
Per-pet rabies status on the home screen
Mobile appThe home screen's rabies tile now reflects each individual pet's rabies status instead of a single shared value.
Graceful maintenance mode
Mobile appWhen the service is briefly down for maintenance, the app now shows a clear full-screen notice with a single "Try Again" action from anywhere in the app, and takes owners straight back in once service is restored.
New public support page
Website and brandPet owners and partner organizations now have a dedicated support page with contact details, audience-specific help sections, and a frequently-asked-questions list, reachable from the site footer and surfaced to search engines.
Fixed and improved
Kept matching fast and reliable
Pet matching & AIHardened the matching service so a slow image analysis can no longer leave a found-pet report stuck waiting, limited how many candidates each review considers, and added safeguards to keep large background jobs from overloading our database. The newest experimental matching technology was paused in our development environment while these protections were put in place.
Clearer match review
Mobile appThe possible-match banner now shows the actual photo of the found pet, confirming a match uses a clean native dialog, and owners of an already-secured pet are prompted to verify a new potential match.
Pet profile and onboarding fixes
Mobile appOwners can now edit a pet's name after creating it, a pet's birthday no longer shifts a day depending on time zone, starting a new registration begins with a clean set of photos, and the app now confirms with our service whether to show the welcome setup so returning owners don't see it again.
Fixed the iOS update link
Mobile appiOS owners prompted to update are now sent to the correct live App Store listing, with a single clear "Update Now" action.
More reliable pet data and document reading
Backend and automationFixed an issue that could stop pet lists from loading, made document reading tolerant of slightly irregular AI output, and uploaded photos are now straightened automatically before their text is read, so records are captured more accurately. Maintenance notices are also sent in the format the apps expect, so they recognize maintenance mode correctly.
Reliable organization switching
ACO and admin portalSwitching the active organization now fully refreshes the portal, so admins always see the right data for the organization they selected.
Fresh builds and routine upkeep
Quality and releaseSeveral new mobile app versions were prepared for testing, dependency and build-tool updates were rolled in, and review feedback from recent changes was addressed. An experimental match-strength badge was trialed and then removed after review.
June 8-14, 2026
A busy week that published our official legal documents and support contact details across both the website and the mobile app, made the lost-and-found match confirmation flow clearer and more accurate, and hardened the mobile release pipeline.
Shipped
Official legal documents and support contact on the website
Website and brandThe website now hosts the official Terms of Service, Privacy Policy, and a new End User License Agreement, replacing the earlier placeholders. The official support email and phone number appear in the footer, the account-deletion help box, and the newsletter note so owners can always find how to reach us.
Support and legal links inside the mobile app
Mobile appThe app's Settings now include a Support option with tap-to-call and tap-to-email shortcuts, plus direct links to the Terms of Service, Privacy Policy, and End User License Agreement, each opening in an in-app browser.
Clearer found-pet contact form
Mobile appWhen someone reports a found pet as a guest, the contact step now shows a short hint listing any still-missing details — full name, a valid email, or phone number — above the Continue button, so it is obvious what is needed before moving on.
Fixed and improved
Accurate pet status when a match is rejected
Pet matching & AIIf an owner reviews a potential match and decides it is not their pet, the pet is now correctly returned to Lost instead of staying marked as Found. The retrieval screen also no longer shows a confusing error when there are no matches left to review.
Smoother match confirmation
Pet matching & AIAfter confirming a match, owners are taken back to Home, which avoids an accidental double-tap on the next action. The Home tiles are now clearly labeled "Mark as secure" for a lost pet and "Retrieval details" for a found one.
Sighting photo swiping
Mobile appThe page dots under "Photos from sighting" now follow along as owners swipe through the images and animate smoothly, instead of always pointing at the first photo.
Chat layout with the keyboard open
Avva chatbotThe scroll-to-bottom button in chat no longer leaves an oversized gap above it when the keyboard is open; the spacing now adapts to the screen and keyboard automatically.
More reliable mobile releases
Quality and releaseBehind the scenes, the iOS and Android build pipelines were hardened so signing certificates no longer collide between parallel builds and Android builds have enough disk space, and a batch of dependency updates was rolled in, so new app versions ship more dependably.
June 1-7, 2026
People can now belong to several organizations and switch between them right from the sidebar without signing in again, anyone can make a free printable lost-pet poster in multiple languages straight from their browser, and the mobile app stays signed in even when the network briefly drops.
Shipped
Belong to several organizations and switch between them
ACO and admin portalA person can now be part of more than one organization and switch the active one straight from the sidebar, with the switch option grouped together for quick access. The change takes effect right away, with no need to sign in again.
Membership that follows the account
Backend and automationAccounts now support belonging to several organizations and switching the active one. Organization membership is saved the moment an account is created, so people land in the right place from their very first sign-in, and existing accounts were carefully moved onto this new shared-membership model with no action needed on their part.
Manage an organization's admins in one place
ACO and admin portalSuperadmins can now add and remove an organization's admins directly from that organization's detail view, making it much faster to keep each team's access correct without hopping between screens.
Free multilingual lost-pet poster maker
Website and brandAnyone can now create a clean, printable lost-pet poster in several languages, completely free and right in their web browser. It is a fast way for owners to spread the word when a pet goes missing.
Have your finished poster emailed to you
Website and brandAfter making a lost-pet poster, people can optionally have the finished version sent to their email, so it is easy to save, reprint, and share later.
A more polished, consistent public website
Website and brandThe lost-pet poster maker and the public pet-services directories were restyled to match the look and feel of the homepage, giving the whole site a more consistent and trustworthy feel.
Stay signed in through brief network drops
Mobile appThe app no longer signs people out when the connection briefly drops during a routine background security check, so a shaky network won't interrupt your work on the go.
Fixed and improved
Membership changes appear without signing in again
ACO and admin portalWhen someone's organization access changes, the portal now reflects it immediately on the next visit, so newly added or removed memberships and a switched active organization always show the correct, up-to-date view without signing out and back in.
Accurate, consistent search-engine listings for the public site
Website and brandPublic pages now use one consistent web address, and corrections were made to titles, structured listing details, and references following a thorough site audit, so the site shows up accurately in search results. The privacy policy was also updated to clearly explain the optional choice to have a finished poster emailed to you.
Safeguards to keep the public site's search data healthy
Quality and releaseNew internal checks were added to keep the public site's web addresses and search-listing details valid going forward, preventing the kinds of issues a recent site audit turned up from coming back. The poster maker was also streamlined so it now runs entirely in the browser.
Up-to-date public pet-services directories
Quality and releaseThe public directories of local pet services received their routine automated refresh so the places people find stay current and reliable.
Sign-in timing and account-data cleanup
Quality and releaseSign-in timing was tuned in our development-only testing environment with no effect on people using the live app, the mobile app's handling of account information was tidied up, and unused account and key fields were removed to keep things simple.
A fresh mobile build for testing
Quality and releaseA new version of the mobile app was prepared and made available for testing.
May 25-31, 2026
This week's headline is a set of three free, searchable pet-services directories now live on the public website — dog parks, emergency vets, and pet-friendly places — that anyone can browse and that refresh on their own every week. On mobile, checkout got faster with Apple Pay, the app now gently prompts people to stay on the latest version, and licenses and records can be opened without leaving the app. Phone numbers, emails, and addresses became tappable across both the app and the portal, a pet's physical tag ID now shows up everywhere it should, lost-and-found matching settings were rewritten in plain language, and Ask Avva voice dictation was made more reliable.
Shipped
Three free pet-services directories now live
Website and brandAnyone can now browse three new free, searchable directories on our website: dog parks across 11 cities, emergency vets covering 12 cities and more than 500 clinics, and pet-friendly places like cafes, restaurants, bars, and places to stay. Clinic listings note things like 24/7 and emergency availability, and each directory keeps itself up to date automatically every week, so the information stays fresh without anyone having to maintain it by hand.
Pay with Apple Pay at checkout
Mobile appPeople can now pay for licenses with Apple Pay right inside the app, making checkout faster and smoother on iPhone with no card details to type in.
Stay on the latest version of the app
Mobile appThe app now checks whether it is up to date and gently prompts people to update when a newer version is available, with a quiet background security check that keeps them signed in, so everyone stays on the most reliable experience.
View licenses and records inside the app
Mobile appLicenses and pet records now open in a built-in viewer, so pet owners can read their documents directly in the app instead of jumping out to another app.
Tap to call, email, and get directions
Mobile appPhone numbers, email addresses, and locations are now tappable throughout the app, so a single tap starts a call, opens an email, or brings up directions in maps. Pet location details now also include the full street address.
Tappable contact details in the portal
ACO and admin portalPhone numbers, email addresses, and street addresses are now tappable in the ACO and organization portal too, so teams can reach an owner or pull up a location in a single click instead of copying details by hand.
Physical tag ID shown on licenses
Backend and automationA pet's physical tag ID now appears on the license card in the app and on the printed license certificate, and it is read automatically from uploaded pet documents so it never has to be typed in by hand.
Clearer lost-and-found matching controls
ACO and admin portalMatching settings were rewritten in plain, everyday language with a simple toggle that lets an organization require a person to review each suggested match before it is confirmed. Field teams can also apply an optional male or female filter to narrow down lost-and-found match results.
More reliable voice dictation in Ask Avva
Avva chatbotTalking to Ask Avva by voice is now noticeably more dependable, and the recording no longer cuts off on its own during a short pause, so people can speak at their own pace and have their words come through cleanly.
Fixed and improved
Ask Avva chat polish
Avva chatbotSeveral chat rough edges were smoothed out: the scroll-to-bottom button is no longer hidden behind the text box, full-screen images can be dismissed with a swipe down, the camera button no longer gets stuck after using voice dictation, and the in-chat document viewer now matches the rest of the app.
Profile loading and display name fixes
Mobile appFixed a hang where the app could get stuck loading a profile, and corrected a case where an old name could linger after signing in or out, so the correct name always shows.
Clearer forms and tidier tag display
Mobile appForms now keep the Continue button disabled until a step is complete and clearly mark which fields are optional, the physical tag shows correctly on the license card without overflowing its badge, very long tag IDs are kept tidy, and tappable contact rows no longer appear in a distracting blue.
Consistent screen headers
Mobile appThe Review screen header now lines up with the Pet Info header for a more consistent look as people move through the app.
Dog parks directory polish
Website and brandThe dog parks pages now fill in their quick key-facts strip and show a compact map view when a full map is not available, so each park page reads cleanly and feels complete.
Build, styling, and reliability upkeep
Quality and releaseSeveral fresh app builds were prepared for testing, colors across the app were unified into a single shared system for a more consistent look, and internal engineering guidelines were modernized and aligned across our tools.
May 18-24, 2026
The current week delivered physical pet tag IDs end-to-end, a rebuilt lost-and-found matching engine with superadmin review, self-serve organization onboarding, and a wide wave of dashboard, home screen, and form-validation improvements across the mobile app and web portal.
Shipped
Physical pet tag IDs
Mobile appPet owners can attach a physical tag ID to a pet, set it during the license purchase flow, and confirm it on a redesigned review step, with the tag ID flowing through the backend and pet profile.
Rebuilt lost & found matching engine
Pet matching & AIPet matching moved to a single Gemini embedding per pet without GPU, now runs on a schedule, routes uncertain matches into a superadmin review queue, and adds a graduated auto-approve threshold that superadmins can tune at runtime.
Self-serve organization onboarding
ACO and admin portalNew users without an organization get a dedicated onboarding page with self-serve signup, organization access requests, and a decline flow.
Configurable license validity
Backend and automationOrganizations can now set their own license validity duration instead of a fixed period.
Dashboard and organization tooling
ACO and admin portalThe Pet Database gained search-as-you-type, a Licenses and Tags page added inline per-pet tag assignment, and Mapbox address autocomplete was added to organization address inputs.
Home screen and pet media polish
Mobile appThe home screen added a pending state and "Valid until" labels with responsive text scaling, alongside a pet photo carousel and improved document upload UX.
Refreshed public homepage
Website and brandThe marketing homepage was rewritten again as v3.1 with a no-permanent-claim content audit and cuter hero and finder-flow imagery.
Fixed and improved
Dashboard form validation
ACO and admin portalPhone, email, ZIP, discount, license-option, and matching-config inputs now validate inline with clear errors, and team lists refresh only after a successful invite.
Dashboard navigation fixes
ACO and admin portalRecent lost-pet rows open the specific report, deep-linked reports open even outside the list, the sidebar logo returns to the role dashboard, and org pet lists no longer cap at 50.
Avva dictation reliability
Avva chatbotVoice dictation got a longer startup grace period and a more forgiving silence auto-stop so Avva no longer cuts off early.
Lost & found authority actions
Pet matching & AIAuthorities can confirm or reject found-pet matches, and a match decision keeps the other candidates' pet data intact.
Email verification and account access
ACO and admin portalA verify-email flow was added for organization access requests, Google SSO no longer leaves members stuck on Pending, and self-deletion was separated from admin deactivation.
Mobile home and media fixes
Mobile appStatus tiles show the year, images restore on back-navigation instead of clearing, keyboard and bottom-nav layout artifacts were fixed, and iOS speech permission was added.
Build, dependency, and reliability upkeep
Quality and releaseBackend auto-deploy to Modal was added, the Android build pipeline was worked on (its deploys still failed this week), mobile and CI dependencies were updated in batches, and backend startup now tolerates a temporarily unreachable database.
May 11-17, 2026
This week centered on the redesigned mobile homepage, refreshed public homepage and brand system, Avva voice dictation, richer image handling, and clearer dashboard improvements.
Shipped
Mobile homepage redesign
Mobile appThe mobile home screen was redesigned with a stronger pet hero card, clearer compliance status tiles, mark-as-found confirmation, and polished alert states.
Public homepage redesign
Website and brandThe marketing homepage was rewritten end-to-end around the current landing content brief so clients can understand the product value faster.
Avva voice dictation
Mobile appAvva can now accept spoken input through voice dictation, with automatic stop after a short silence window.
Claude vision for Avva
Backend and automationThe image understanding path moved to direct Claude vision, with durable S3-backed attachment history for richer context.
Licenses and Tags dashboard
ACO and admin portalThe web dashboard gained a Licenses and Tags page with inline per-pet tag assignment and clearer pet detail presentation.
Unified brand assets
Website and brandThe webapp and website logos, colors, favicons, gradient token, and generated social preview image were aligned with the mobile app and design system.
Fixed and improved
Home and report-lost polish
Mobile appThe redesigned home screen received critical review fixes, better status tile dates, long-name fading, and report-lost background cleanup.
Avva chat usability
Mobile appThe pet selector now uses an anchored dropdown, keyboard behavior was corrected, image aspect ratios were preserved, and the selected pet is respected from the nav bar action.
Organization approval emails
ACO and admin portalSuperadmin organization approval now uses the backend approval endpoint so the expected email flow is triggered.
Found-report verification guard
ACO and admin portalThe found-report verification page now guards against React Strict Mode double submission during verification.
Dependency and platform upkeep
Quality and releaseMobile dependencies were updated in batches, Kotlin compatibility was corrected, and automated tests were adjusted around the newer chat and pet security behavior.
May 4-10, 2026
This was the heaviest delivery week so far: license purchase edge cases, lost-and-found workflows, Avva attachments, document intelligence, and admin dashboard fixes were all moved forward.
Shipped
Lost and Found split for field teams
ACO and admin portalACO and organization dashboards now separate lost pet cases from found pet reports, making field work easier to scan and triage.
Smarter pet document titles
Backend and automationUploaded records can receive clearer generated titles using extracted document details such as clinic names and structured fields.
Avva attachment experience
Mobile appThe chat experience gained multiple file attachments, image previews, carousel viewing, durable attachment history, and an in-app PDF viewer.
Longer Avva sessions
Backend and automationAvva sessions now last longer and resume with a greeting, which reduces friction for owners returning to a conversation.
Public pet photo storage path
Backend and automationPet photos were moved toward a cleaner public storage prefix so images can load more consistently across the app.
Fixed and improved
License purchase and renewal edge cases
Mobile appThe team fixed proof-of-vaccination requirements, spay/neuter handling, pending license counts, owner names, species labels, and multiple-license purchase support.
Stripe and license activation resilience
Backend and automationWebhook handling and pending-license reconciliation were strengthened to reduce the chance of a paid license staying stuck.
Field search and lost-pet scoping
ACO and admin portalLost-pet views now respect pet jurisdiction, owner contact information shows in match and lookup contexts, and reporter details are filled in more reliably.
Mobile form focus and keyboard behavior
Mobile appMany high-friction form moments were cleaned up, including numeric keyboards, tap-outside behavior, picker dismissal, and modal focus snap-back.
Web dashboard polish
ACO and admin portalDashboard sidebar clipping, collapsed logo alignment, long organization details, ZIP code paste, and revenue split validation were fixed.
May 1-3, 2026
The first May delivery window focused on improving the pet owner mobile experience, making license and profile flows clearer, and preparing Avva for the next AI engine upgrade.
Shipped
Address autocomplete and better saved locations
Mobile appPet owners can enter addresses more reliably, with full location labels saved for later lookup and found-pet workflows.
Avva AI engine groundwork
Backend and automationThe backend and mobile app were prepared for the Anthropic-powered Avva chat engine so the team could validate it safely in development builds.
